Green tea extract to be effective in treating leukemia
Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA One study showed that an active ingredient in green tea epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) can effectively control the disease in order to overcome the disease has brought new hope. The findings were published in the online edition of the recent "Journal of Clinical Oncology (JournalofClinicalOncology).
In clinical trials, Mayo Clinic researchers twice a day to 33 patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia taking eight kinds of different doses of the drug dose ranged from 400 mg to 2000 mg. The main active ingredient of the drug is EGCG, the results showed that the number of lymphocytes of patients declined by one third. In addition, the researchers also found that patients with the drug has a strong tolerance, even up to 2000 mg each, or did not meet the patients maximum tolerated dose. The researchers found that patients not only able to tolerate such high doses of green tea extract, and many people with chronic lymphocytic leukemia improved in patients suffering from lymph node enlargement symptoms, most taking the drug, and lymph node will be reduced half or more. At present, this study has entered the second phase, roughly the same number of patients and the number of the first phase of follow-up to participate in clinical trials. Everyone will be taking the highest dose of the same with the original test. The researchers hope of EGCG to stabilize early chronic lymphocytic leukemia patients condition, or combination with other treatments to improve the treatment of the disease. |
